Pénitence de St. Jérome
The image used here is a modified detail from Pénitence de St. Jérome, painted in 1509–1510 by Lorenzo Lotto, (1480–1556).
Scan imperfections and all human figures were removed, and the image has been given a "painterly" treatment
to appear more like an illustration. A thumbnail of the original image appears below.
Why St. Jerome?
In the Roman Catholic Church, Jerome is the patron saint of translators, librarians, and encyclopedists.
Aside from its pure visual appeal, and especially in light of my considerable involvement with Distributed Proofreaders, this
particular painting seemed eminently appropriate.
